Every 15 Minutes
As high school students gain more independence, it's crucial for them to understand the weight of their decisions, especially when it comes to drinking and driving. The Every 15 Minutes program is a two-day event designed to show high school juniors and seniors the impact of their choices. By simulating a car accident caused by a drunk driver, the program provides a powerful message about personal safety, responsibility, and community impact.
Life is a Moment
As a professional MMA fighter, Marcus Kowal knows what it’s like to push his body to the limit. He has endured tremendous physical pain during his career, but it was nothing compared to the loss that awaited him.
The second he met his son, Liam, Marcus knew that his life had changed forever. He had to stop merely thinking like a fighter and a business man and start thinking like a father. There was nothing more important than the tiny baby in front of him. Marcus cherished every moment he spent with his son, but there would never be enough. In 2016, Liam was struck by a drunk driver. He never regained consciousness.
Through his memoir, Marcus shows you the depths of his grief. His candid writing covers every emotion he felt when he was confronted with the loss of his son. He was devastated, but he was also determined to stop Liam from becoming just another faceless statistic about the dangers of drunk driving. He and his wife, Mishel, embarked on a new fight to give Liam the justice he deserved.
In Life Is a Moment, Marcus invites you to fight alongside the couple and join them in celebrating Liam’s life.
Liam’s WOD
Gyms around the world have been participate every year in the Liam’s WOD on his birthday, May 25. It’s a fun and engaging two-person WOD that is challenging for anyone but can also be scaled so that a first-timer can do it.
To represent Liam’s date of birth and done every year on Liam’s birthday! This is a partner WOD, intended to remind everyone that together, we can end drunk driving-related fatalities.
Each round you and your partner SWITCH what you’re doing and you’re alternating between 25 and 15 reps. Partner A works, while Partner B is doing the respective static hold.
Partner A is must complete both the 25 reps and 15 reps before switching with Partner B. While one partner is working, the other is doing a static hold.
The workout is for time, which means at the end of the WOD, you record your time and next year you can redo it to see if and how you’ve improved.
Letters to Liam
Letters to Liam is an inspirational expose documentary that follows MMA fighter Marcus Kowal and his wife Mishel as they navigate life and attempt to change the mentality and laws surrounding drinking and driving after the tragic loss of their fifteen month old son Liam.
Marcus and Mishel’s navigate a flawed justice system, attempt to create a real change in Liam’s name, and find a way to move forward with life. Only ten months after Liam’s death, Mishel is preparing to give birth to their second child, Nico, and although this is a light at the end of a dark tunnel, they are still dealing with the loss of Liam. Marcus deals with this in the only way he knows how, with the aggressive pursuit of change that is fueled by the fighter within. He spends every ounce of his energy raising awareness and sharing his story in the hope that no other parent will have to go through what he and Mishel have gone through.
Marcus & Mishel are meeting with lawmakers, community leaders, tech gurus, and leading entrepreneurs in an attempt to implement real change in Liam’s name.
They navigate the murky waters of a tragedy that no one would ever want to face.
